Review of C Casa, an Upscale Taco Place in San Ramon

C Casa is a taco place located at City Center Bishop Ranch in San Ramon, California. But to call it a taco place perhaps doesn't fully describe this restaurant.

Most Californian tacos are extremely simple--you get a corn tortilla, some meat, and perhaps a handful of salsa and some chopped onions. C Casa's tacos are totally different.

They're loaded up with fancy ingredients like duck and lamb, as well as complex (and delicious) sauces, chopped fruits and veggies, and much else. The tacos are so big that you have to eat some of the ingredients with a fork before you can even close the tortilla.

To some purists, this will seem like too big a departure from tradition. But C Casa's tasty ingredients and high-quality food--with nice touches like fresh tortillas made to order--will placate many doubters.

I like their duck taco especially. Their guacamole is excellent as well, and is served with a big helping of homemade tortilla chips.

C Casa has a lovely outdoor seating area with couches and fire pits, which more than makes up for the restaurant's small interior. C Casa also has surprisingly good kids' meals, made with simple ingredients like rice and beans, with a brownie on the side.

One gripe with C Casa is the lack of drink options. They have a full tequila bar and Mexican Coca Cola, which is awesome. But sometimes you want a sugar-free option, like a Diet Coke, which C Casa is lacking.

I'd also like to see some simpler taco options on their menu. They did add more down to earth food during the pandemic, but some traditional tacos made with fresh ingredients would be great to have, too.
